PiiComm responded to the department’s request with a comprehensive secure decommissioning solution. As a Canadian company already working with other governmental organizations, PiiComm met the security and locality requirements from the start. To satisfy the department’s additional clearance protocols, PiiComm staff underwent background checks, fingerprinting, and security screening—receiving full clearance within 48 hours.
PiiComm picked up the devices directly from the department’s storage facility, maintaining chain of custody from the moment of receipt. Each device was assigned a unique tracking ID—essential for broken units with no accessible serial numbers—and documented throughout the destruction process.
Devices were disassembled and separated into components. Batteries were individually wrapped and set aside for specialized lithium-ion recycling. Memory chips were physically destroyed using a drill press, ensuring data could never be recovered, regardless of the device’s condition. Each destruction was photographed and logged against the device’s tracking ID.
